My favourites books

I suppose that it is only logical that I introduce my reading tastes; it's a good place to start.
These I love with all my heart, but feel free to tell me what you think about them or to give me your personal favourites. I might also have forgotten some or haven't yet read some other favourites, so expect a part two.
I narrowed it down to seven books:

7: Illuminae Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Making this list without a space opera was impossible. This is by far the most unique and addicting one I've read. It's formatted in files, but it's still hilarious and has a little romance. It's basically about an intergalactic war between two "mega-corporations", where the female lead is a badass hacker and the male lead is more or less in the militairy.

6: Private Peaceful Michael Morpurgo

I love Micheal's work in general (remember war horse?), but this is my favourite. It's about the life of two brothers during WWI. This tears your heart out of your chest. I usually never cry with books, but this one made my eyes burn a little.

5: A song of ice and fire George R.R Martin

This book I read over a period of three months (during which I read other books of course). It gave me time to get used to the caracters and to slowly fall in love with their messed up world. Apparently the TV show has a lot of smut but honestly this wasn't as bad as I expected. Still recommend a minimum of maturity, but trust me the book is worth it in terms of plot, world building and characters.

4: A court of thorns and roses  Sarah J. Mass

Sarah J. Mass's two current series would have been on top of my list a year or two ago but I have found their quality to be declining (might do a review soon and give the spoilery reasons).  However I still love them for good reasons: the writing is very good, and the characters are amazing. The ACOTAR series is about a poor huntress who is forced to go to over the wall separating the faeries and the mortals, because she killed a faerie accidently (thus breaking a treaty). The first book is meh but it is simply building up for the second book which is amazing.

3: The book thief Markus Zusak

The book thief is a WW2 book narrated by death itself "and when death tells you a story you really have to listen". Death, has a dark humor which makes us strangely attached. This book is raw and honest.. If that doesn't sell you, then I can't anything for you.

2: Six of Crows Leigh Bardugo

This duology is about a group of outcasts trying to pull off a heist, and so much more. A lot of themes such as racism, prostitution and religion are handled very well. The characters seem real and have back stories without making the plot boring. I can't recommend it enough.

 1: Animal Farm George Orwell

Even if I love 1984, Animal farm takes the fist place. It's about a farm of animals revolting against their farmer, and them trying to work out how to run the farm. It's a satire of society that everyone needs to read. It's to the point, funny at unexpected moments and short (my copy is only 95 pages long). So you have no excuse not to read it.

There you have it! I didn't mention Harry Potter because it's a given and I also didn't add Lord of the rings because I'm currently powering through the first book.
Yours,
Juliette
